Code of Conduct Policy
The Frederick Indoor Sports Center Code of Conduct Policy We believe in SPORTSMANSHIP-ABOVE ALL ELSE!. Sportsmanship is important not only as a practice of etiquette and respect in sports, but also because it helps teach young athletes good behavior that carries over into other aspects of life. Therefore, for any activity or event at FISC, it is everyone's responsibility to maintain the highest standards of conduct—everyone means all players, parents of players, coaches, referees, spectators and FISC staff. Failure to do so undermines the general enjoyment of youth/adult sports, the referee's authority and the integrity of the game resulting in an unnecessary hostile environment for players, referees, coaches and parents/spectators. This policy applies before, during and after the event - inside or outside of the facility.
No parent/spectator shall negatively address the referee, coaches, players or the opposing team’s spectators in an unsportsmanlike manner at any time. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Making derogatory comments to or about players, spectators or coaches of either team;
- Disputing calls during or after the game;
- Yelling or other aggressive language including criticism, sarcasm, harassment and/or intimidation before, during or after the game.
- Coaches are expected to show that, although their team is competing in a game, they have respect for the opponent, referees and spectators at all times. Similarly, opponents, referees and spectators are to show respect and good sportsmanship to coaches.
- Coaches are prohibited to leave benches/sidelines for any reason during the game unless instructed to do so by an official.
- Coaches and players exhibiting hostile, negative, sarcastic or otherwise ill- intended behavior toward referees, opposing players or coaches will be subject to ejection and/or suspension.
- Coaches and players shall not interact directly or indirectly with the coaches or players of the opposing team during the game in any manner that may be construed as negative, hostile or sarcastic either by way of demonstrative actions and gestures or by ill intentioned remarks.
- Coaches and players are prohibited to address the referee(s) in a distracting manner during the game except to point out emergency or safety issues.
NOTE: Coaches and team members should not engage in any conversation with the referee(s) once the game has concluded. All comments should be directed to a FISC manager or FISC Welcome Desk team member.
If, in the opinion of FISC management/team member, an individual has conducted themselves in an unsportsmanlike way, and depending on the severity of the offense, the following actions will be taken:
- Verbal warning: A one-time verbal warning to the offending party;
- Game stopped: The offending party is ejected from the match (or if the offending party is a parent, that parent’s child is ejected from the game);
- Team forfeit: Game stopped and the offending party’s team forfeits the game;
- Suspension of the offending party: From all future events indefinitely unless an appropriate resolution has been reached to the to the satisfaction of FISC management in its discretion;
- Banned from FISC: If a player, parent/spectator, coach, assistant coach is suspended/banned by FISC he/she may not be present at FISC for any reason.
Note: Any time a player is ejected from a game, the player (and the player’s family) must leave the facility immediately. If a team has to forfeit a game, then that team, its coaches and any family members of players on the team, must leave the facility immediately. No refunds will be given for loss of membership privileges due to breach of the FISC Code of Conduct.
